The success of our researchers - approved bilateral projects with Slovenia proposed by Dr. Jasmina Dostanić, Dr. Milija Sarajlić, Dr. Milica Vlahović and Dr. Snežana Štrbac

As part of the Call for co-financing scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Slovenia for the two-year project period 2023/2025, 56 projects were approved. Among the approved projects are four projects that researchers from ICTM on the part of the Republic of Serbia will manage:

  • Dr Jasmina Dostanić, ICTM and Dr. David Bajec, National Institute of Chemistry, Department of Catalysis and Chemical Reaction Engineering – „Band structure engineering design for construction of the heterojunction semiconductors for enhanced photocatalytic activity. Theoretical and experimental study“
  • Dr Milija Sarajlić, ICTM and Dr. Gregor Kramemberg, Jožef Stefan Institute, Experimental Particle Physics – „Development and characterization of PIN dosimeters“
  • Dr Milica Vlahović, ICTM and Dr. Borut Kosec, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering – „Cavitation erosion testing of creep resistant martensitic stees for advanced application”
  • Dr Snežana Štrbac, ICTM and Dr. Matija Klopčić, University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty – „Investigation of the influence of soil properties on growth and regeneration of sessile oak (Quercus petraea)”

A list of all approved projects can be found on the Ministry's website: Bilateral cooperation with Slovenia (nitra.gov.rs).

Congratulations to our colleagues and their teams on the received bilateral projects, and we wish them much success in the realization of the planned research!

ICTM's researchers at the 65th International Fair of Technics and Technical Achievements

Researchers from the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy (ICTM) participated in the 65th International Technology Fair in Belgrade from 16-19. May 2023, under the slogan "Play for humanity!" Science for everyone!". This fair is the oldest technical-technological exhibition manifestation in this part of Europe. The fair also included networking events and activities for meeting new business partners and exchanging experiences. An excellent opportunity for institutes to present achievements, meet users and discuss with colleagues was organized by the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation in cooperation with the ICT Hub and the Center for the Promotion of Science. The excellent concept and design of the fair exhibition have raised the level and represent a significant challenge to the organizers of the following technology fair.

The success of our associates - Danica Savić, winner of the award for the best poster presentation

Danica Savić, Junior Research Assistant at the Department of Chemistry ICTM, was awarded for the best poster presentation at the 5th International Conference on Natural Products Utilization: from Plants to Pharmacy Shelf, ICNPU-2023, which was held in Varna, Bulgaria, from May 30 to June 2, 2023. Congratulations to our colleague Danica Savić! We wish her great success in her future work!

The bioindication workshop organized at ICTM within the BIOLAWEB project

The BIOLAWEB project organized a workshop titled "Introduction to Bioindication," led by Dr. Susanne C. Schneider from NIVA (Norway), an international expert in the field of bioindication. A bioindication is a valuable tool for monitoring and assessing the state of aquatic ecosystems. It involves using living organisms to indicate environmental quality, and it can provide important insights into the health of an ecosystem. On April 25th, she held an introductory lecture during an online part of the workshop. The second part was held at the Institute of Chemistry, Technology, and Metallurgy in Belgrade from the 3rd to the 5th May this year. Besides BIOLAWEB team members, researchers and students from other institutions related to the field of aquatic ecology participated in the workshop: the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology, Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković," University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Sciences, Serbian Environmental Protection Agency, Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology (Montenegro).

The workshop introduced the basic principles of bioindication, as well as practical examples and case studies. Moreover, the participants were divided into groups. Each group was tasked to prepare a presentation on a specific group of bioindicator organisms and related indices, providing the participants with deeper involvement and insight into this topic. The workshop was interactive, very well-designed, and well-received by the participants, who found it informative and engaging. They appreciated the interactive format, which allowed for discussion and exchange of ideas.

Overall, the workshop was a success, highlighting the importance of continuing education and training in environmental science and bioindication. By providing opportunities for researchers and students to learn and exchange knowledge, we can better understand and protect the environment for future generations.
