On Tuesday, December 10, the Second internal Conference of the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy - an Institute of National Importance for the Republic of Serbia - University of Belgrade was held under "ICM – A Step Forward 2024."
The one-day event was held at the Opera & Theatre Madlenianum under the auspices of the SAIGE unit of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia. The Serbia Accelerating Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project - the SAIGE project aims to accelerate the development of the Republic of Serbia, and the transformation of scientific institutes is one of the key elements of this project. ICTM accepted its share of responsibility for the accelerated development of society and joined the SAIGE project, starting an internal reorganization and directing existing resources towards top scientific results in chemistry and related technologies. The Conference held a panel discussion entitled From Research to Innovation: Transformation of ICTM through the SAIGE project, which discussed the challenges of transformation and the successes achieved by researchers.
The Conference presented successful projects of ICTM researchers through oral presentations and a poster section, among which a significant part (24) were innovative and were funded through the SAIGE program - eight internal Proof of Concept projects (internal PoC), eight internal projects intended for young researchers (SEED projects) and one collaborative Proof of Concept project (Coll PoC). Since the previous internal Conference, ICTM researchers have received 15 scientific projects funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia - eight from the Prizma call, three from the Promise call, and four from the Proof of Concept call, as well as three from the Innovation Fund - two from the Technology Transfer program and one from the Science and Industry Cooperation program. ICTM researchers have also received nine scientific projects from international research funding funds. The increased interest of our scientists in innovations and innovative projects is a direct consequence of the activities of the SAIGE program.
The Conference presented 54 selected poster presentations that ICTM researchers presented at scientific meetings in 2024. During this year, ICTM researchers published 253 papers in scientific journals. Of these, 236 were published in international journals (M20 category), namely 31 papers in the M21a category, 96 papers in the M21 category, 64 papers in the M22 category, and 45 papers in the M23 category.
On this occasion, awards were presented to the most successful researchers, and commendations were given to employees for their exceptional contribution to the development of the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy.
"ICM – A Step Forward 2024" was attended by members of the ICTM Board of Directors, representatives of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, the SAIGE Project Management Unit, representatives of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, the Innovation Fund of the Republic of Serbia, the Center for the Promotion of Science, BIO4 Campus, EUTA organization, deans and professors of the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, the Faculty of Physical Chemistry of the University of Belgrade, the Serbian Chemical Society, the Community of Institutes of Serbia and representatives from the economy.
In addition to the SAIGE project, the Conference was supported by the companies Novos, Analysis, Krug Inter, LKB, Merck, and Kefo.
