Painted mural on the ICTM building in Njegoševa Street

The side of our Institute's building in Njegoševa Street has been given a new look. Prominent scientists are depicted on the painted mural: Prof. Dr. Milutin Stefanović (1924-2009), Prof. Dr. Paula Putanov (1925-2014), and Prof. Dr. Pavle Savić (1909-1994). With their work, they made an exceptional contribution to the development of chemistry and physical chemistry in Serbia, as well as to the founding of the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy (ICTM). The ICTM logo is displayed on the wall, as well as the most significant dates in the history of our Institute - from the establishment of the State Chemical Laboratory in 1859 by decree of Prince Miloš, the construction of the building in Njegoševa in 1882, to the acquisition of the status of the National Institute in 2018. This news was also covered in numerous domestic media (in Serbian: Fonet, Euronews Srbija, N1, Danas, …)

The building in Njegoševa represents a Cultural monument and speaks of the tradition of chemical sciences in Serbia.

SYSTEM AND PROCEDURE OF AUTOMATIC CLASSIFICATION OF UV/VIS SIGNALS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF BILIARY CIRRHOSIS AND THEIR APPLICATION

Authors: Milka Avramov-Ivić (ICTM National Institute, Belgrade), Ana Gavrovska (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Belgrade), Dragan Vuković (Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade), Dušan Mijin (Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, Belgrade), Slobodan Petrović (Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, Belgrade), Braninir Reljin (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Belgrade), Irini Reljin (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Belgrade), Milan Milivojević (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Belgrade), Sanja Stevanović (ICTM National Institute, Belgrade), Jelena Lović (ICTM National Institute, Belgrade).

The invention is one of the results of the international EUREKA project "Digital device for UV/VIS signal classification in diagnostics of benign diseases and tuberculosis (E!13086-DIDIB)," which four institutions of the University of Belgrade: ICTM – National Institute, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy and Faculty of Medicine realized during the Covid 19 pandemic.

The success of our researchers - UNDP support within the " Challenge call for innovative solutions for the green transition of Serbian economy"

As part of the " Challenge call for innovative solutions for the green transition of Serbian economy," within the project "EU for Green Agenda in Serbia," the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, with the support of the EU Delegation in Serbia, selected the best project proposals received so far. Among the selected proposals is the project proposal of the ICTM scientific team consisting of our colleagues Dr. Jelena Milić, Dr. Tatjana Šolević Knudsen, and Dr. Jelena Avdalović - Decontamination of waters polluted by organic pollutants in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our colleagues are engaged in two more projects. In the project Circular economy through the cascading use of waste biomass created after the distillation of medicinal plants to develop innovative bio-cosmetics (lead institution: University of Belgrade - Faculty of Biology - University, Dr. Danka Bukvički, PI), Dr. Nataša Jović-Jovićičić, Dr. Marija Ajduković and Dr. Predrag Banković are participating from ICTM. Dr. Ljubica Anđelković and Dr. Marija Šuljagić from ICTM are participating in the Green Technology project for obtaining antimicrobial composites for use in cosmetics (lead institution Institute for Nuclear Sciences "Vinča," PI Dr. Miljana Mirković).

Congratulations to our colleagues, and we wish them much success in the realization of the planned activities!

Announcement of the 1st COST COSY Training School, Belgrade 19-22 September 2023

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the 1st COST COSY Training School entitled "Multiscale modeling of the properties of compounds: From isolated molecules to 3D materials relevant for industrial and astrophysical applications". The School will take place at Hotel Palace in Belgrade from 19-22 September.

It focuses on a better understanding and recognizing issues relevant to applying the novel computational approaches for the multiscale modeling of molecular systems, isolated or confined environments, which may consist of enclosing molecular cages, surfaces, interfaces, and strong electromagnetic static or optical fields. Accurate characterization of phenomena of astrochemical relevance, using the most advanced spectroscopic technics and the highest ab initio theories, will also be included. Worldwide experts working in European countries are invited to present the most relevant state-of-the-art techniques and their applications.
MSc, Ph.D. students, post-docs, and permanent scientists can apply for the COST COSY funds, which will cover a full board in the Palace Hotel in downtown Belgrade and travel expenses.
For details about the school and how to apply, please visit: https://www.trainingschool-cost-cosy.com
emails: tsbelgrade2023@gmail.com; sonja.grubisic@ihtm.bg.ac.rs.
