The research includes the fabrication of a sensor of elementary (metallic) mercury based on the change of resistivity of thin gold layers in presence of mercury. The golden film is photolithographically patterned to form a meander and is connected into a Wheatstone bridge. The resistivity change due to mercury adsorbed on the meander surface is detected as disbalance of the bridge. One of the directions of research is a possibility to use temporal dependence of sensor signal for enhanced sensing.
